Kerala State Chalachitra Academy announces online festival, Docuscape

Docuscape will screen award-winning documentaries and short films screened at earlier editions of the International Documentary and Short Film Festival of Kerala (IDSFFK). 

The Kerala State Chalachitra Academy has announced a week-long digital festival, Docuscape, which will be held from 21 - 28 August. The festival will showcase award-winning documentaries and short films screened at earlier editions of the International Documentary and Short Film Festival of Kerala (IDSFFK). 

The festival released a statement that read, “This global pandemic has affected all aspects of the film and media industry and the situation challenges us all to re-invent new ways to enjoy cinema.” The festival is part of the ways of engaging with the audience that looks forward to the annual festival every year.

The films are available free of cost across the world and audiences will need to register on the website to access them. The statement adds, “We wish to share the love of cinema and life with our audiences and strive to nurture hope through films in these unprecedented times.”

The opening film of the festival is Amina (2019), a documentary from Turkey by Kivilcim Akay and the festival will conclude with Yashaswini Raghunandan’s documentary, That Cloud Never Left (2019). Other films that will be screened includes a selection of animation films, along side the Indian and International fiction and non-fiction films.

The woman Behind The Window by Kourosh Shirali, Black Sheep by Ed Perkins, Letter to Theo by Elodie Lelu, and A Moon For My Father by Mania Akbari and Douglas White are some films in the international section, while the Indian films include Shazia Iqbal’s short film Bebaak (2018), Mukul Haloi’s Days Of Autumn (2016), Aditya Kelgaonkar’s Sound Proof (2018), and Tushar Madhav and Sarvnik Kaur’s Soz: A Ballad of Maladies (2016), amongst others.

A set of documentaries and short films will be made available every day on the website and a live interaction with the directors will be held at 4 pm on the following day.
