The COVID-19 pandemic has seen a lot of short films and web-series made while following lockdown guidelines. These films have tackled stories set behind closed doors.
But director Nikhil Nagesh Bhatt’s Hindi web-series The Gone Game is a proper thriller with the story taking place outdoors as well. But the people involved have shot it while staying indoors.
The story takes place when the COVID-19 pandemic is at its height. Amara Gujral (Shweta Tripathi Sharma) stays alone in Bengaluru. She spends her time speaking to boyfriend Dr Prateek Jindal (Indraneil Sengupta) in Mumbai. Her brother Sahil (Arjun Mathur), who is also in Mumbai and stays with his wife Suhani (Shriya Pilgaonkar), starts getting COVID-19 symptoms.
After going through tests, Sahil learns that he is positive for COVID-19 and gets admitted to the Janki Sadan hospital. Soon, he dies, leaving Amara shattered. But a twist takes place when Amara learns that her brother was never admitted to the Janki Sadan hospital. Circumstances force Sahil’s family to think he may have been abducted or murdered. What exactly happened to Sahil?
The Gone Game has an interesting, mysterious plot. The fact that it has been shot entirely indoors in various ways adds to the viewer's interest. If the makers are able to pull this one off, it would be quite an achievement.
Shweta Tripathi Sharma, who has the maximum screen time in the trailer, is impressive once again. Shriya Pilgaonkar adds mystery through her brief appearance. There is also a glimpse of Dibyendu Bhattacharya, who was excellent in the recent web-series Undekhi.
