SonyLIV's upcoming web-series Scam 1992 is based on the infamous stockbroker, the late Harshad Mehta. The teaser shows a scared and hesitant whistle-blower (Sharib Hashmi) telling Sucheta Dalal (Shreya Dhanwanthary), a reporter with The Times of India newspaper, about a Rs500 crore scam involving the country's largest bank, the State Bank of India.

As the whistle-blower reveals the name of the scamster, we see intercuts of Harshad Mehta's meteoric rise from a small chawl to a demigod-like figure in the Indian stock market. Though the teaser cleverly hides his face, we believe Pratik Gandhi plays the late fraudster in the film.

The web-series is set in early 1990s Bombay and based on the book The Scam by Debashis Basu and Sucheta Dalal. It is helmed by National award-winning director Hansal Mehta.

Harshad Mehta was a stockbroker who became a member of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) in 1984. By 1990-91, he was being hailed as 'The Big Bull'. In 1992 he orchestrated the biggest securities scam the country had seen till then.

Mehta's story is getting two adaptations this year, this web-series by Hansal Mehta and a film, starring Abhishek Bachchan and directed by Kookie Gulati, called The Big Bull (2020).

The release date for Scam 1992 has not been announced yet. Watch the teaser below and let us know if you are eager to watch this web-series.
