In an interesting move, OTT platform Zee5 has released just two episodes of the second season of the web-series Abhay.
The experiment has been forced on the producers and the OTT platform by circumstances.
The web-series was to be released in full today, but the team could not complete shooting in time owing to the countrywide 75-day COVID-19-induced lockdown imposed from 24 March, leading man Kunal Kemmu revealed at a webinar yesterday where the cast and the director of the show were also present.
Kemmu, who plays inspector Abhay Pratap Singh on the show, told webinar host Salil Acharya that the team had planned some exhilarating sequences for the web-series but could not shoot those because of the lockdown.
"We were among the first to resume shooting [after the lockdown was lifted]," Kemmu revealed. "But given the circumstances, a lot had to be changed in the show, including the script. We had planned big action and chase scenes in crowded markets, but all that had to be changed because we can't shoot those now given the COVID-19 situation. We had to bring down the scale of the show, but we made sure we didn't lose its essence."
The makers now plan to release the rest of the episodes next month. How the show's audiences react to this two-part release remains to be seen.
Directed by Ken Ghosh, who had also directed a few episodes in the first season of the show, Abhay (Season 2) also stars Asha Negi, Ram Kapoor, Nidhi Singh, Chunky Pandey and Bidita Bag.
