Varun Dhawan encourages India to entertain from home in Flipkart’s stay-at-home reality show

Entertainer No. 1, a one-of-a-kind reality show, is set to be launched on 13 April.

With an entire country in a lockdown, Flipkart’s stay-at-home reality show will give people a chance to showcase their talent, while maintaining proper physical distancing. The one-of-a-kind reality show, Entertainer No. 1, is set to be launched on 13 April by Varun Dhawan for Flipkart Video.

According to a press release, the show “is curated with the intention to cheer up India during this difficult time, and encourage people to bring out their creative best, while more importantly, staying at home”.

Yesterday, Dhawan announced that he would provide free meals to those without jobs and homes for a week. The actor has also contributed to the CM relief fund and the PM Cares Fund in the fight to combat the coronavirus pandemic in Maharashtra and India.

Speaking about the association with Flipkart Video, Varun Dhawan shared, “Flipkart's efforts during this difficult time are commendable and through this new show, we are seeking to entertain millions of fellow Indians as we bring in some much-needed positivity. I'm looking forward to delivering the best entertainment in collaboration with people from across India.

“Our country is a treasure trove of talent and I truly believe that anyone should have the opportunity to showcase their entertainment skills. What better way to do it than an easy upload on the Flipkart app. Given the unique format of the show, I’m looking forward to some exciting entries from across India and can’t wait to get on this entertaining roller-coaster ride that begins next week,” he said.

To take part in Entertainer No. 1, participants can record their performance directly under the ‘video’ section on the Filpkart app. They will have a large library of songs and dialogues to choose from. The reality show is open to participants over 13 years of age (allowing minors to participate under supervision), with no bar on gender or geography.

The show will have diverse weekly challenges over eight weeks to find the eventual winner. The most popular entries each week will move on to the next round for a chance to win exciting cash prizes and gift vouchers.

Dhawan’s next film, Coolie No.1 (2020), with Sara Ali Khan, was originally due to be released on 1 May. The comedy remake is likely postponed as theatres across India have shutdown due to the coronavirus pandemic.
