Ek Thi Begum to be a bilingual starring Anuja Sathe in the lead

Anuja Sathe is playing the lead in the bilingual web-series Ek Thi Begum, which will stream on the OTT platform MX Player from 8 April. The show also stars popular names from Marathi cinema like Chinmay Mandlekar, Santosh Juvekar and Ankit Mohan among others. It has been written and directed by Sachin Darekar. 

This MX original, which will be released in Marathi and Hindi, is an underworld saga revolving around the character of Begum, played by Sathe. While the basic storyline of the series is not known, the makers stated in a press release that it is inspired from real-life events.

This does appear to be the case as the small teaser released recently, shows a character modelled on the country's most-wanted terrorist Dawood Ibrahim. Although the footage only incudes a 10-second song, it clearly indicates that Ek Thi Begum is an out-and-out underworld saga with lots of guns and violence.  

Sathe played the lead role in her last Marathi movie WhatsApp Love (2019). She has also played supporting characters in some known films like Asa Mee Ashi Tee (2013), Coffee Ani Barach Kahi (2015), Blackmail (2018), Parmanu (2018) and Mi Pan Sachin (2019). The actress has also appeared in television serials like Tamanna, Peshwa Bajirao and Jhansi Ki Rani.
