Comedy might not be new to Vir Das, but the actor-comedian goes down the darker route in the new Netflix series, Hasmukh. Featuring Das alongside Ranvir Shorey and Manoj Pahwa, the series is set to be streamed on the Netflix OTT platform from 17 April.
The trailer follows the journey of Hasmukh Sudiya (Vir Das), a man from Saharanpur who wants to be comedy's biggest star. The only problem lies in his crippling creative blocks. The solution, as Hasmukh finds out, lies in killing someone before he gets on the stage.
What begins as an accident soon turns the wannabe comedian into a serial killer. With some help from his 'star-maker' Jimmy (Ranvir Shorey), Hasmukh turns into a serial killer by night and comedian by day.
Dark, with a smattering of jokes, Hasmukh follows the pattern of an absurd drama which is accidentally funny. While Das looks a little awkward in the role of a country bumpkin, it might be interesting to see if he includes his stand-up comedy routines in his act. Shorey offers another interesting twist as the man looking to profit out of this murderous enterprise.
Directed by Nikhil Gonsalves, the series has been produced by Nikkhil Advani and features a host of actors from Inaamulhaq and Raza Murad to Pahwa and and Ravi Kishan. The series is set to be streamed on Netflix from 17 April. Watch the trailer below:
