Baahubali 2 completes three years today; greatest film of my life, says Prabhas

Directed by SS Rajamouli, the franchise created history at the box office and also made the actor a household name.

Actor Prabhas on Tuesday called Baahubali 2 the greatest film of his life and thanked his fans and team on the occasion of the movie’s third anniversary.

In a heartfelt statement, the actor wrote: “Baahubali 2 was not just a film that the nation loved, but also the greatest film of my life. And, I’m grateful to my fans, team and director SS Rajamouli, who made it one of the most memorable projects.” He went on add that he is delighted about all the love the film has received as it completes three years today.

A story about two warring brothers battling for the ownership of an ancient kingdom, Prabhas and Rana Daggubati played the protagonists. The film features elaborate fight sequences and computer graphics, including rampaging elephants and a bull stampede which wowed audiences and critics alike in india as well as internationally.

Shot in Telugu and Tamil, the film was dubbed in Hindi and Malayalam. Interestingly, all four versions of the film did exceptionally good business at the box office. In fact, Baahubali 2 has many first-time records. It’s the first Indian film to breach the Rs1,500 crore club, crushing all records across the length and breadth of the globe.

In Tamil Nadu, the film minted over Rs150 crore, becoming the first film to achieve the rare feat, even surpassing superstar Rajinikanth’s Enthiran, which registered the record seven years ago.

According to trusted trade pundits, it took the second part of the Baahubali franchise just 16 days to enter the Rs100 crore club in Tamil Nadu. In Kerala, the film made around Rs70 crore during its theatrical run.

Trade Analyst Taran Adarsh also posted on Twitter on the third anniversary of the film's release. "On 28 April 2017, three years ago, #Baahubali2 took the world by storm... Decimated previous #BO records... Set new benchmarks... Emerged a trendsetter... Rewrote the rules of the game," he tweeted.

The film, which was produced by Arka Media Works, also starred Anushka Shetty, Tamannaah Bhatia, Ramya Krishnan and Nasser in key roles.
