Actress Banita Sandhu revealed that the lead actor of Shoojit Sircar's Sardar Udham Singh (2021), Vicky Kaushal, is "so talented that he is intimidating." The actress will be playing the lead opposite Kaushal in the film. Initially scheduled to be released in October 2020, the film has now been moved to January next year due to the delays caused by the pandemic.
The film also marks Sandhu's reunion with Sircar, who directed her debut feature, October (2018). In an interaction with Filmcompanion.in, she said, "It just felt so wonderful and nostalgic to come back to work with the team that pretty much gave me my career. The thing I love about Rising Sun Pictures is that every film it is the same unit, the same costume directors, the same AD, everyone is the same."
The actress also revealed that Sircar had thought about the film even before shooting for October (2018) began. She said, "I remember when I was shooting for a chewing gum ad with Shoojit sir. He spoke about two films that he wanted to do. One was October and the other was Udham Singh. It was on his mind back then. That was like 2016-17."
However, the actress's first day on the set of the film resulted in an embarrassment. Sandhu revealed that she didn't recognise Kaushal, as he was giving his shot. "I think, it was my first day on the set, and Vicky (Kaushal) was giving his shot. I went and sat behind the monitor. He was so amazing that I said, 'Who is this Punjabi boy you have got?' " she said. On finding out it was Kaushal, Sandhu revealed, "Vicky is so talented, it was actually intimidating."
Sardar Udham Singh is currently in the last stages of its film making process. The actress said that her part of the shooting had already wrapped up. "Luckily, we finished my role before the coronavirus hit. I think they've wrapped the film now. I think they are in the process of editing the smaller scenes left."
The film will be Sandhu's second Hindi film, and her first since the Tamil film, Adithya Verma ( 2019).
Sardar Udham Singh is now scheduled to be released on 15 January 2021.
