Police complaint against Kangana Ranaut for video supporting sister Rangoli Chandel's hate speech

A complaint has been lodged with the police against actress Kangana Ranaut for supporting sister and manager Rangoli Chandel's hateful statements on Twitter.

The complaint was filed by an advocate, Ali Kaashif Khan Deshmukh, at the Amboli police station in suburban Mumbai on 17 April..

According to the Indo-Asian News Service, the complaint accused Ranaut and Chandel of "misusing their stardom, fan base, fame, money, power and influence with an aim and intent to promote hatred, disbalance, fights in the country for their personal benefits and gains."

The controversy began with Chandel's violent statements on Twitter which led to her being blocked on the social media platform. Soon after, Ranaut posted a video, supporting her sister's statement and requesting the Indian government to take action against the social media platform, Twitter.

The actress also stated that if Chandel had indeed said something offensive, "both of us will publicly apologize".

The ABP News television channel reported that the complaint had been filed under section 153-A of the Indian Penal Code for promoting enmity between different groups on the basis of race, religion or gender, section 153-B for questioning loyalty to the Constitution by implying people's religion or race, section 295-A for deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings, and section 298 for deliberate intention to hurt religious feelings. 

Khan Deshmukh has been involved in some sensationalist cases in the past, including one in which he moved the Bombay high court for a ban on the mobile video-sharing platform TikTok for its addictive nature in November 2019.
