Ajay Devgn is all set to return in the sequel to Raj Kumar Gupta's Raid (2018). Work on the script is already underway and has been confirmed by co-producer Bhushan Kumar, the T-Series boss.
Devgn had essayed the role of Internal Revenue Service (IRS) officer Amay Patnaik in the film. The Mumbai Mirror newspaper quoted a source as saying, "The franchise seeks to bring into the public eye heroes who work closely with intelligence agencies to track white-collar crimes. To this day, nobody knows the identity of the officer on whom Ajay’s Amay was modelled."
The source added that the sequel will also be a tribute to officers in uniform. It is not known yet if Raj Kumar Gupta will return to direct the sequel.
Based loosely on real events, Raid did reasonably well at the box office, coming close to the Rs100 crore mark in lifetime earnings.
The Hindustan Times newspaper quoted Bhushan Kumar as saying, "It will be a huge multi-film franchise and Ajayji and I, along with Kumar Mangatji, are looking to take Raid forward. The script for Part 2 is being developed. Since the original was a much-loved film, the sequel is a huge responsibility. After the super success of Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior, there is a lot of pressure on this collaboration to live up to expectation."
Before the lockdown came into effect, Devgn was preparing for Amit Sharma's Maidaan. The actor has a crowded line-up for 2020 which includes Bhuj: The Pride Of India, Indra Kumar's Thank God, the remake of the Tamil film Kaithi (2019), and Neeraj Pandey's historical film Chanakya.
