Actor Ajaz Khan was arrested on Saturday for making statements potentially harmful to communal harmony. The actor's comments during a Facebook live session angered serveral users, leading to police action against him. He was produced in court on Sunday and remanded in judicial custody till April 24.
Following Khan's Facebook session on Saturday, users had already initiated a hashtag trend asking for his arrest. The post has since been removed. The actor was picked up from his residence on Saturday for inquiries, before being arrested.
The Hindu.com quoted Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone IX), Abhishek Trimukhe saying, "We have charged Mr Khan for promoting enmity on grounds of religion; waging, attempting to wage or abetting waging of war against the government; an intentional insult to provoke breach of peace and disobeying an order promulgated by a government servant under the Indian Penal Code."
The actor had been arrested earlier in 2019, for making similar inflammatory statements over TikTok about the lynchings in Jharkhand.
