Three film industry associations step forward to support daily wage workers 

The Producers Guild of India (GUILD) and the Indian Film and Television Producers’ Council (IFTPC) have joined hands with the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) to provide financial assistance to the daily wage workers of the film industry, who have been affected by the current lockdown. 

“In a significant development, the FWICE has come forward to support this fundraising initiative of Guild and IFTPC by offering to set up a transparent and efficient mechanism to disburse these funds to the daily wage workers, [the] most impacted by the shutdown, especially those [who] have no other financial assistance or support available to them from any other source, ensuring that the financial assistance will be made to daily wage workers only through direct bank payments,” said a press release issued by GUILD.   

Earlier this week, actor Salman Khan pledged to support 25 thousand daily wage workers of the FWICE. 

Speaking to the news agency, the Press Trust of India (PTI), FWICE president BN Tiwari had said, “We have about five lakh workers of whom 25,000 are in dire need of financial help. The Being Human Foundation has said it will take care of these workers. They have asked for account details of these 25,000 workers as they want to ensure that the money reaches them directly.” 

Earlier in the month, Akshay Kumar too had pledged to donate Rs25 crore to the PM Cares Fund, an account set up by India’s prime minister Narendra Modi.
