Second season of Ek Thi Begum to roll after the lockdown, says director Sachin Darekar

The bilingual web-series is an underworld saga set in the 1980s, with a woman as its protagonist.

Writer-director Sachin Darekar’s bilingual web-series Ek Thi Begum started streaming on MX Player last week. It stars Anuja Sathe as the protagonist along with Chinmay Mandlekar, Santosh Juvekar and Ankit Mohan.

The makers had already decided on the second season of the show even before the first one was out. “I have completed writing Ek Thi Begum 2,” Darekar told Cinestaan.com.  “Once we come out of this difficult lockdown phase, we will immediately start working on it. I am glad to have a platform like MX Player with me,” he added.

Ek Thi Begum is set in Mumbai in 1986. It tells the story of a gangster (Ankit Mohan) getting killed in a fake encounter after he decides to leave the underworld. This compels his wife Sapna (Sathe) to avenge her husband’s death.

Darekar also told us that the idea of Ek Thi Begum came during a chat with an ex-policeman from Mumbai. “He spoke about a woman in the 1980s, who had challenged a big don of that time. I found this one line very interesting. This incident hasn’t been spoken about much,” said the writer-director.
