Hing, the first from the series of Lockdown Shorts by Windows Production, has Aparajita Adhya and Manali Manisha Dey playing two sisters. The four-minute short film has been written by Zinia Sen, who also wrote Brahma Janen Gopon Kommoti (2020). The music of the short film, which was released yesterday, has been composed by Prabuddha Banerjee.
Adhya and Dey feature as two sisters. Dey, the younger sister, asks her older sister for the recipe of dal, in which hing or asafoetida is an important ingredient. However, she is not aware that more than the required amount of asafoetida can ruin the taste of a dish.
As Dey cooks while talking to her sister on the phone, she regrets not having learnt to cook. Now she has no choice but to enter the kitchen because of the lockdown. Her sister is aware of her poor knowledge of cooking and calls her back after a few minutes to check on the dal. The result is as expected. Dey says her dal doesn’t taste like the one her sister makes.
The story tries to convey that the role of a homemaker is as important as any career. The current lockdown due to COVID-19 has made people realise this. Those who have been engaged in building careers, overlooking the effort behind household chores, now have no choice but to acknowledge the efforts behind a homemaker's job.
