Over the past two decades or so, the advent of the multiplex culture has ensured that newer subjects are being tried in Hindi cinema, the kind one would not dare touch in the 1990s. However, some things remain the same, like the age-old sleazy song-and-dance numbers called 'item' numbers.
Director Deva Katta’s Prassthanam (2019) is the latest culprit to keep this unwanted legacy alive in the song ‘Dil Bevda’.
The film revolves around stars Sanjay Dutt, Manisha Koirala, Jackie Shroff, Ali Fazal and Chunky Pandey, but the song features Satyajeet Dubey and Ishita Raj Sharma as the 'item' girl.
‘Dil Bevda’s is a typical dance number taking place in a club where a girl in minimal clothes is dancing with those seductive steps while hundreds of men stare at her with hungry eyes, including Dubey’s character.
There have been such dance numbers that are at least decent to listen to. ‘Sara Zamana’ from the Hrithik Roshan-starrer Kaabil (2017) was one recent example.
Unfortunately, ‘Dil Bevda’ falls flat even in terms of the lyrics by Shekhar Astitwa and the vocals of Bhoomi Trivedi and Mika Singh. Vikram Montrose's composition is passable and just fills the need for dance music.
Prasshthanam is the official remake of the Telugu movie of the same name released in 2010 by the same director. Produced by Sanjay Dutt Productions, the film will be released on 20 September. Watch the song below and let us know if you are keen to watch the film.
