Even as Sujeeth's Saaho (2019) turns over the box office, the film has received some scathing criticism from an international filmmaker. The film was criticised for being 'inspired' from the 2008 French film, Largo Winch, on Monday, 2 September. The director of Largo Winch, Jerome Salle, even took to Twitter to offer his surprise at the comparison.
I think I have a promising career in India. https://t.co/XAiERdgUCF

However, the filmmaker seems to have been disappointed by the audiences' reception of Saaho, and remarked that the filmmakers had better 'do a better job' next time.
It seems this second "freemake" of Largo Winch is as bad as the first one. So please Telugu directors, if you steal my work, at least do it properly?

And as my "Indian career" tweet was of course ironic, I'm sorry but I'm not gonna be able to help. https://t.co/DWpQJ8Vyi0
The director's pointed take on the 'freemake' was a reference to the nature of the inspiration. There have been comparisons made between another Telugu film, Pawan Kalyan's Agnyaathavaasi (2018), which also had a similar storyline to Salle's film.
Meanwhile, director Sujeeth put up an emotional post requesting fans to go watch the film a second time. Describing his journey as a director, Sujeeth wrote "Made my first short film when I was 17 years old. No money, No team but had lot of support from Orkut and family. I edited, shot and directed 90% of my short films. I learned from my mistakes and criticism was always like extra boost for my journey. Travelled very long way and faced many hurdles but never gave up. TODAY MANY PEOPLE saw SAAHO - some expected more from it, but many loved it! Thanks to all for watching the movie :) Please watch it again if you missed anything. I am sure you’ll enjoy even more. "
