The song 'Ami Chini Go' from Devayush Chowdharry’s first film Adda (2019) is the rock version of Rabindranath Tagore’s most popular songs and presents the urban pulse of Kolkata with glimpses of the multiple narratives that it is going to present.
Composers Suvam Moitra and Joydeep Banerjee have followed Kishore Kumar’s rendition of the song in Charulata (1964) to blend it into a rock version. The song is deeply ingrained in Bengali psyche and hence, the director has perhaps chosen the popular song to express the sentiment of Bengali culture and Kolkata to its core.
The song, sung by Moitra, begins with a visual of the iconic Howrah Bridge and throughout the video there are glimpses motifs and places that have turned synonymous with Bengali culture over the years.
The song features Soumitra Chatterjee, Rittika Paul, Sourav Das, Saayoni Ghosh, Indrasish Roy and Prantik Banerjee. The visuals project a budding romance between Das and Paul, while Ghosh and Roy seem to be caught in a tumultuous relationship.
Paul can also be seen protesting in college, standing firm in front of Chatterjee, who rather seems to be overwhelmed at the situation.
Banerjee, on the other hand, can be seen different in locations of the city, with his two friends.
In an interview with us, director Chowdhary spoke about the story’s focus on how the characters deal with various situations of their lives, at the heart of the city that represents a culture of many years. The song offers glimpses of the slice of drama, picking some moments of the equations between the characters.
Adda is slated for release later this month.
