Rajlokhi O Srikanto song 'Amar Bhul Hoe Gyachhe Priyo': Nature plays dominant role in this minimalistic track

Singer Timir Biswas, with his husky voice, has lent soul and freshness to the simple composition.

The song 'Amar Bhul Hoe Gyachhe Priyo' from Pradipta Bhattacharya’s Rajlokhi O Srikanto (2019) is a soothing number written and composed by Anirban Das. Timir Biswas, with his husky voice, has lent soul and freshness to the simple composition.

The visuals featuring Ritwick Chakraborty, Jyotika Jyoti and the artistes playing their younger selves convey the crux of the lyrics which constitute the primary strength of the minimalistic composition. The song carries the signature of Bhattacharya’s style of conveying volumes through a simple form.

In the song, the lover asks for forgiveness from his beloved for making a sweet mistake out of the playfulness of love. He reminds her of all the fond memories of their romance that have lingered over time.

In the beginning, the younger selves of the two are found in a rapturous mood amidst trees in a dry land. While the young Rajlokhi shies away, Srikanto secretly finds joy in the act of love. The sequence shifts to the present, without change of the cinematic composition, while the song in the background continues. From dry forest, the song shifts to hills covered in green, where an adult Rajlokhi and Srikanto are seen to be brooding, perhaps recalling the playfulness of their childhood, into which they can’t indulge anymore due to years of separation.

Nature plays the carrier of their shared happiness, which has not vanished yet, though the lovers cannot cross the rift between them despite sitting so close to each other. As Srikanto is not seen to be lip-synching the song, the dominance of nature in the frames implies that the lovers are listening to the song of love they once gifted to nature.

Das has also retained the raw texture of Timir’s voice with the mild strumming of the guitar by Soumyadipta Ray that goes beautifully with the visuals.

Rajlokhi O Srikanto is slated for release on 20 September. Watch the 'Amar Bhul Hoe Gyachhe Priyo' song below.
