Rani Mukerji’s Mardaani 2 will arrive on 13 December. The sequel, directed by first-time filmmaker Gopi Puthran, will see the actress reprising her role of superintendent of police, Shivani Shivaji Roy from Mardaani (2014).
In the first film, Roy battled a kingpin of a child trafficking racket and brought it down. The makers of the film have given a hint as who the actress will be going up against.
"Rani as Shivani will be seen in a massive showdown with a 21-year-old villain who is an embodiment of pure evil. He is a dangerous criminal who targets women," Gopi Puthran shared in a press release. Puthran was the writer of Mardaani (2014).
The young actor playing the villain has not been revealed. The cop thriller was shot extensively in Rajasthan in Jaipur and Kota.
A short video, announcing the release date, also gives us a first-look of Mukerji in action as Roy as she vows to stop all those who commit crimes against women.
"The film will see a woman cop fighting a pure evil of a person to end crimes against women. As we all know, Navratri stands for the victory and battle of good over evil across India. Whether it is Goddess Durga’s victory over the demon Mahishasura or Lord Rama’s victory over Ravana, Navratri’s significance is key to this asset launch. So, we decided to start the journey of Mardaani 2 on this auspicious occasion," Mukerji explained.
