Dream Girl 'Ik Mulaqaat' song: Ayushmann Khurrana and Nushrat Bharucha's sweet romance hits the right notes

Every romance needs a good song to begin with, at least in Hindi cinema. And so, in Dream Girl, Ayushmann Khurrana starts his romance with Nushrat Bharucha with a wonderful number from Meet Bros.
While the qawwali does have a familiar ring owing to the similarities with the late Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan's famed 'Mere Rashq-e-Qamar', it is still well worth listening to. Composed and sung by Meet Bros, the song also features the vocals of Altamash Faridi and Palak Muchhal.
The visuals for the song revolve around the courtship between the couple played by Khurrana and Bharucha. As the two take in the sights of the city, Khurrana's charm takes over. The visuals are nicely blended in with the sparks of a slow-burn romance with boat rides and grand gestures.
The composition by Meet Bros follows the template set by 'Rashq-e-Qamar', which was recreated only recently for Rohit Shetty's Simmba (2018) in Rahat Fateh Ali Khan's voice. But that is just the starting point. The song swiftly moves into fusion mode with the guitar solo following the percussion that adds vibrancy to the number.
The vocals play a big part in bringing a different dimension to the song. While Altamash Faridi has the tone of voice for a qawwali, he soon blends in with the background music to shift gears. Palak Muchhal brings more dynamism with her change in metre and rhythm, adding depth to the composition. In doing so, the song retains a harmony that fits in with the idea of a small-town romance.
Dream Girl, directed by Raaj Shaandilyaa, is set for release in theatres on 13 September. Watch the 'Ik Mulaqaat' song below and let us know if you are keen to watch this film.
