Chhichhore song 'Khairiyat': Arijit Singh gives voice to Amitabh Bhattacharya's soulful ode to unfulfilled love

Composed by Pritam, the song has lyrics by Amitabh Bhattacharya.

If Shah Rukh Khan and Dilip Kumar embodied tragedy through their portrayals of the character of Devdas, Arijit Singh is the closest to such a portrayal in the field of vocal singing.

Pritam ropes in the singer once again to voice the unspoken pain of Sushant Singh Rajput's Anni in Chhichhore's song 'Khairiyat'. Composed by Pritam, the song also has lyrics by Amitabh Bhattacharya that make Arijit's voice feel even more impassioned.

The song plays in the background of a snippet of Anni and Maya (Shraddha Kapoor). The visuals of the first infatuation, the sly meetings, and friendship, is soon followed by a seeming disagreement and resentment.

While the reason is mysterious, this resentment is the reason for the break-up and separation that continues much into the years following. Even as Anni returns for the reunion, there is a feeling of something left unsaid between the two.

Amitabh Bhattacharya's lyrics capture this feeling completely. The lyrics are simple, beautifully rhythmic and convey a sense of the relationship wonderfully. With each waiting for the other to make the move, sometimes the end is painful.

This pain comes through in Arijit Singh's voice. The singer is perhaps, the closest this generation has to a heartbreak healer. Pritam allows the singer to rise to the occassion by keeping the orchestrations to the music down to a minimum. Arijit does not disappoint in any way.

Chhichhore is directed by Nitesh Tiwari, and is set to release in theatres on 6 September.
