We have already had three films in the Housefull franchise. The common point between them was its madcap content. Housefull 4, fourth film in the franchise, has to fall in the same league but the big difference is that it’s a reincarnation comedy.
In the year 1419 in Sitamgarh, the characters of Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh and Bobby Deol are all set to marry Kriti Sanon, Pooja Hegde and Kriti Kharbanda respectively. However, as they are killed in a battle, they are reborn 600 years later in 2019 in the city of London, England.
Akshay recollects their past life stories. But the problem is that he, Deshmukh and Deol are marrying different girls in this lifetime. So, their mission in his life is to battle the demons of their past and ensure that they are married to their loves of 1419.
Going by the trailer, Housefull 4 appears to be crazier and more larger-than-life than the earlier three films. But apart from two-three moments, there aren’t much laughs. Somehow even in 2019 mainstream Hindi cinema feels that it’s funny to show men who dance and eunuchs in bad light.
The funniest part here is Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s cameo. The actor gives references of two of his memorable characters Shiv Kajra and Ganesh Gaitonde from Kick (2014) and the web-series Sacred Games respectively. Similarly, we also get a glimpse of Rana Daggubati as a devilish man.
Although it’s early to judge, the VFX looks poor. In fact, the visuals of Sitamgarh appear right out of any current Hindi television series.
A good portion of Housefull 4 was directed by Sajid Khan, but he was replaced by writer-director Farhad Samji after there were multiple #MeToo allegations against the former.
Housefull 4 will be releasing on Diwali on 24 October. Watch the trailer below and let us know if you are keen to watch the film.
