Trust Milap Zaveri to come up with something so over the top in its element that it reminds you of a 1980s commercial film. Sidharth Malhotra takes on the role of the hero, Raghu, while Riteish Deshmukh tries to play the evil dwarf in Marjaavaan's latest trailer.
The trailer begins with a shot of Sidharth Malhotra's Raghu stepping in to save his friend, while quoting a dialogue as cheesy as anything trending on TikTok. The energy of the scene though is on point, with Malhotra pulling off iron chains as he saves his friend. Malhotra is attempting to shed his urban image with yet another role of a tough street-ruling gangster.
Tara Sutaria plays the love of his life, with the exception of being mute. The love story runs into a small roadblock in the form of the cruel, immoral Riteish Deshmukh. "I am not a villain," he explains, "I am an avatar." The touch of Deshmukh's dwarf singing 'Galliyan' from Ek Villain (2014) is a nice touch though.
That is not the only similiarity with the earlier Riteish Deshmukh and Sidharth Malhotra-starrer. The sight of Sidharth Malhotra out for revenge after his love is shot, is a throwback to the film that delivered Malhotra's big hit as a lead actor.
The trailer reveals everything there is to show in the film. It is quite easy to sketch out the plot progression through the scenes in the trailer itself. The dialogues and the forced delivery from both Riteish Deshmukh and Sidharth Malhotra seem far fetched.
From its helmet-cracking punches, bodies bouncing off the concrete like it was rubber, the film seems to have taken a page out of Rohit Shetty's playbook. While Zaveri has done well with Satyameva Jayate (2018), Marjaavaan lacks the touch of realism that made the former a hit.
Marjaavaan is due to be released on 8 November 2019. Watch the trailer below and let us know if you are keen to watch the film.
