As reported by Cinestaan earlier this year, Subodh Bhave and Bharat Jadhav will be reuniting after nine years in a comedy film by Ashwni Dhir. Titled Appa Anni Bappa (2019), the film is due to be released on 11 October.

The trailer of the film shows that it is a light-hearted drama revolving around Govind (Jadhav). He is a common man belonging to a middle class family in a town in Maharashtra. He stays with his father (Dilip Prabhavalkar), wife and two children. He feels burdened handling his family and work. At the same time, Govind raises questions on the elaborate manner of celebrating Ganeshotsav.

One day, out of the blue, a mysterious character (Bhave) enters his life and assures him that his problems will be solved, which includes getting money from his fixed deposit account. However, Govind lands in trouble when he finds out that he won’t be getting the money from his FD. Upset over God, he decides to immerse the Ganesh idol at his place only after he recovers his money.

The theme of a man questioning God after being entangled in crisis and receiving guidance from a mysterious person instantly brings to mind Umesh Shukla’s Hindi movie OMG! Oh My God (2012). Although they haven’t revealed in the trailer whether Bhave’s character is an incarnation of God, his avatar and mannerisms clearly indicate that.

But nevertheless, the trailer is interesting and it generates your interest in the movie. Plus, watching Jadhav and Bhave together is a treat.

Appa Anni Bappa is Dhir’s first Marathi film. He is known for making Hindi films like One Two Three (2008), Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge? (2010), Son Of Sardaar (2012) and Guest Iin London (2017).
