Anjan Dutt glad to bring out the politically conscious Byomkesh in Satyanweshi Byomkesh

The upcoming film features Parambrata Chatterjee as Byomkesh Bakshi for the first time.

For the first time, Anjan Dutt has worked as the creative producer and screewriter of Sayantan Ghosal’s upcoming film Satyanweshi Byomkesh (2019). The multi-faceted filmmaker previously directed various Byomkesh films, featuring Abir Chatterjee and Jisshu Sengupta in the lead.

Satyanswehi Byomkesh features Parambrata Chatterjee as Byomkesh Bakshi for the first time. Rudranil Ghosh will be seen playing his confidante and author Ajit Bandyopadhyay.

When the trailer was launched earlier this month, Dutt spoke why despite being away from the Byomkesh ventures for a long time, Satyanweshi Byomkesh appealed him to bring him back to the business.

"I have been working with the Byomkesh franchise for a long time. This time I am not the director, rather, the creative producer. I have worked as a part of the team," the director said.

There have been rumours that Dutt tried to instruct the director in his work, but he clarified, "No, I have not tried to direct on behalf of Sayantan. That is not my job. I am rather happy playing this new role of a creative advisor.”

Dutt said he could lend his advice because he has been associated with the project for a long time. He added that Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay’s Byomkesh stories are multi-layered. Also, Byomkesh has multiple shades and transforms according to the context of each story.

"I am happy that Parambrata is going to highlight a shade of Byomkesh that has never been portrayed before by any other actor. Parambrata portrays the young Byomkesh, who is extremely politically sound and this avatar is quite close to my heart," Dutt stated.

According to the actor-turned director, Chatterjee’s act has a restlessness that is missing from the other portrayals of Byomkesh. "We have been finally able to bring out that Byomkesh from Sharadindu’s writing. I think it was important because Byomkesh is not a typical detective, he is an iconic Bengali with social and political consciousness. He has his own principles and political ideologies. Bandyopadhyay’s Mognomainak delineates that aspect of Byomkesh," Dutt concluded.

Satyanweshi Byomkesh is slated for release on 2 October.
