The Sky Is Pink might tell the story of a courageous family that surpasses the tragedy that surrounds it, but the soundtrack promises all the joy it can muster. Pritam's 'Dil Hi To Hai' is one such track that brings in freshness, vivacity and an exuberance to match the visuals on screen. Sung by Arijit Singh, the song has lyrics from Gulzar.
The song tracks the blossoming of the romance between Farhan Akhtar and Priyanka Chopra Jonas's characters in the film. It is set in the dingy bylanes of Old Delhi, as the couple sneak off to their little alcove. Surrounded by crowded houses and prying eyes, the two find joy in each other's company. Thus, the song takes shape.
Arijit Singh is a versatile singer who brings both energy and melody to the song through his rendition. Antara Mitra offers him equal competition as she enters the fray, playing the voice of Chopra Jonas. Pritam's composition is effervescent and has a rhythm that is infectious. With the guitars offering a wonderful base for rhythm, the song is definitely catchy.
Gulzar's lyrics, as usual, play on the abstract with odd imagery that makes for an enjoyable addition to the composition. Typically, in his style, he uses the Old Delhi connection of Mirza Ghalib invoked through the first words and signature of the song, 'Dil Hi To Hai'.
The Sky Is Pink is directed by Shonali Bose and is set to be released in theatres on 11 October. Watch the song below and let us know if you are keen to watch the film.
