Dream Girl song ‘Dhagala Lagli Kala’ removed from digital platforms for copyright violation

The song ‘Dhagala Lagli Kala’ from Dream Girl, a remix of a wildly popular Marathi song from an old Dada Kondke film, got good reviews when it was released last month. But the makers of the film have now been forced to remove it from every digital platform because of copyright violation.

Earlier in the week, the Delhi high court restrained Balaji Motion Pictures, Zee Entertainment and Alt Digital from using any portion of the original song from Kondke’s Bot Lavin Tithe Gudgulya (Ticklish Wherever I Touch You, 1978), as reported by the website BarAndBench.com. 

The verdict was given by Justice Rajiv Sahai Endlaw on a petition filed by Saregama India which holds the rights to the original song.

Following this, the song was removed from every digital platform [video websites and song apps]. But unofficial or pirated versions of the song posted by ordinary users continue to be available on YouTube. 

The makers of Dream Girl had shot a grand video of the song where Riteish Deshmukh was specifically called to match steps with the film’s lead pair Ayushmann Khurrana and Nushrat Bharucha. It was a promotional song which wasn’t shown in the movie.
