Ayushmann Khurrana's purple patch extended this week with his latest film, Dream Girl (2019), hitting Rs69.75 crore after the first week at the box office. According to BoxOfficeIndia.com, the film managed to hold steady on its first week, despite the competition from another film, Chhichhore (2019).
Having opened with a decent Rs9.50 crore, Dream Girl went on to cross the mark of Rs50 crore in a span of four days. The collection has held steady since then, with Thursday turning up Rs5.75 crore. This takes the film's entire collection within touching distance of Rs70 crore.
The film might see increased competition this week with three new releases, The Zoya Factor (2019), Prassthanam (2019) and Pal Pal Dil Ke Paas (2019), on board. However, the word of mouth for the Raaj Shaandilyaa comedy remains good, and it can post a strong performance.
Considering the revenue Chhichhore earned in the second week, it will be important for Dream Girl to continue this run into the coming week. This would ensure that the film has a better chance of crossing the Rs100 crore figure.
Nitesh Tiwari's film broke the Rs100 crore barrier on its second Wednesday. Currently, BoxOfficeIndia.com figures mark that Dream Girl is already a hit. Whether it becomes a super hit depends on its second week.
