Box office: Chhichhore becomes Sushant Singh Rajput’s second Rs100 crore film after MS Dhoni


The film didn’t receive entirely positive reviews from the critics, but the film generated a good word-of-mouth, especially among the college-going crowd.

Director Nitesh Tiwari achieved history with his last film Dangal (2016). The Aamir Khan-starrer became the highest grossing Hindi film with a lifetime collections of Rs374.53 crore nett. The film was inspired from the real-life story of wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat and his daughters Geeta and Babita Phogat. 

Tiwari has followed it up with another hit in the form of the recently released Chhichhore (2019). The film reached the Rs100 crore mark at the India box office on Wednesday as it made Rs3.50 crore approx on the day (total Rs102.59 crores approx), as per figures shared by BoxOfficeIndia.com. The film’s Thursday figures stood at Rs3.25 crore nett. This takes the total revenue of the film as on Friday to Rs105.59 crore approx.

Starring Sushant Singh Rajput, Shraddha Kapoor, Varun Sharma and Tahir Raj Bhasin, the film was about a group of engineering students who relieve their hostel days years after during their unexpected reunion. 

As per trade sources, Chhichhore is made at a budget of around Rs50 crore. It has earned the double of it so far and is still running throughout the country. The film didn’t receive entirely positive reviews from the critics but the film generated a good word-of-mouth, especially among the college-going crowd. 

Chhichhore is the second time that a film starring Rajput has entered the Rs100 crore mark after MS Dhoni: The Untold Story (2016), which had done a lifetime business of Rs119.09 crore. He was also a part of Rajkumar Hirani’s PK (2014) which went onto earn Rs337.72 crore, but his role was more of an extended cameo.
