The trailer of Sayantan Ghosal’s upcoming detective film Satyanweshi Byomkesh (2019) was launched by the director, lead actor Parambrata Chatterjee, creative advisor and screenplay writer Anjan Dutt and the producers of the film at Hotel Hindustan International earlier this week.
The rest of the cast, including Rudranil Ghosh, Suprovat Das, Gargee Roy Chowdhury, Ayoshi Talukdar and music composer Neel Dutt were present as well.
While Chatterjee will be seen as the iconic Bengali sleuth Byomkesh Bakshi for the first time, Ghosh will be playing his sole confidante Ajit Bandyopadhyay, the author of all of Bakshi’s cases, in the film.
According to Ghosal, the film is like a fusion cuisine to him, as it retains the classical flavour of Anjan Dutt’s screenplay as well as is made with a modern and edgy perspective of a director, who belongs to the age of Netflix.
At the launch, Chatterjee endowed Dutt with the credit for popularising Byomkesh series by Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay on the silver screen.
He also applauded Das, who has been mostly seen in Dutt’s directorial ventures, for his commendable performance in the film and said, "He is a fantastic actor and, in the future, I am sure, his will be a name to reckon with."
Chatterjee spoke of his long friendship of 17 years with Ghosh and said, “We have been together through thick and thin over these years. We have faced a lot and seen a lot. It is a strange coincidence that we finally got to play Byomkesh and Ajit, the iconic pair in the film.”
The actor-turned-director also hinted that Madhurima Basak, who plays an important role in the film, will also be seen in the next Byomkesh films of this new franchise.
Satyanweshi Byomkesh is slated for release on 2 October.
