The satellite rights of megastar Chiranjeevi’s upcoming magnum opus Syeraa Narasimha Reddy (2019) has been acquired by the Zee network for a whopping Rs125 crore, according to industry sources.
This is the biggest amount spent on a film’s rights in South India. Superstar Rajinikanth’s 2.0 (2018) was also snapped up by Zee for Rs110 crore last year.
Directed by Surender Reddy, Syeraa Narasimha Reddy is gearing up for release on 2 October. The film also stars Amitabh Bachchan, Nayanthara, Tamannaah Bhatia, Sudeep, Vijay Sethupathi and Jagapathi Babu.
In the film, Chiranjeevi will be seen playing Kurnool-based freedom fighter Uyyalawada Narasimha Reddy. On signing the project, he had said it was his long-time desire to play a historical character.
“It has always been my dream to play Bhagat Singh. Despite being offered the role back then, I couldn’t play it for several reasons and it was later played by several of my counterparts. It was played by several actors across languages. I regret missing out on an opportunity to play the role because I don’t think anyone wants to make a film on him today,” Chiranjeevi had said.
The film, which will be released in Hindi by Excel Entertainment, has been produced by Ram Charan on a lavish budget of Rs150 crore.
The film’s teaser was released in August and it was well received by audiences. The teaser projected Chiranjeevi as a ferocious rebel.
