The song 'Amar Etuk Sudhu Chaowa' from Pradipta Bhattacharya’s upcoming film Rajlokhi O Srikanto (2019) has interesting visuals featuring Ritwick Chakraborty, Jyotika Jyoti and Rahul Banerjee. Written and composed by Anirban Das, the minimalistic yet meaningful song has been soulfully rendered by Timir Biswas.
In the song, Chakraborty, who plays Srikanto in the film, can be seen lip-syncing for the first time in his career and the actor has done a decent job in it. The song is deeply layered and expresses hidden desires of Srikanto coated in the play of words.
In the visuals, as Srikanto performs the song and secretly conveys his desires to Rajlokhi (Jyoti) in front of a gathering, the latter begins to feel uncomfortable at the confessions and for not being able to directly react to it. She becomes even more uneasy as she has to continuously entertain the supposedly amorous gestures of Hukumchand (Banerjee) as she happens to be his mistress.
The complaints and intense desires in the words affect her deeply. Leaving Hukumchand, the rest of the people sitting around the table, can also make sense of her discomfort in the ambience.
While it is apparent that because of Hukumchand, Rajlokhi and Srikanto are bound to remain distant and hence, Srikanto is trying to establish a connection through the words, Hukumchand rather remains oblivious to the entire developments and appears to be a self-indulgent character.
The setting of the visuals is also interesting as the characters are seen to be having a party and drinking alcohol in the open air in broad daylight amidst tents in a field where a pundit comes and offers them the blessing after performing his rituals.
Biswas’s rendition clearly expresses the supressed passion and romance hidden in the song that Chakraborty is able to emote on screen with effect.
Rajlokhi O Srikanto is slated for release on 20 September. Watch the song below and let us know if you are keen to watch the film.
