Actor Arya, recently seen essaying dual roles in Magamuni (2019), has been signed for a boxing-based action drama to be directed by Pa Ranjith of Kabali (2016) and Kaala (2018) fame.
The yet-untitled project, according to reports, will be set against the backdrop of North Madras. There are rumours already doing the rounds that the film could be a remake of Anurag Kashyap’s Mukkabaaz (2018).
It is worth mentioning that Kashyap and Ranjith met a few months ago in Mumbai. The former has publicly admitted that he is a fan of Ranjith’s work and that he eagerly looks forward to his films.
However, an official announcement is awaited from Ranjith or from Arya. Close sources to both have confirmed that the two met a few months ago and spoke about teaming up soon.
Meanwhile, Arya is relieved with the response for Magamuni, in which he has played dual roles. The film saw him play a hitman as well as a pious teacher practising brahmacharya.
Magamuni is having a decent run at the theatres. The film, a slow-burning revenge thriller, revolves around twins who cross paths many years after they got separated and the events that follow.
Directed by Santha Kumar, who returned to direction after eight years, the film also featured Mahima Nambiar and Induja in key roles. Studio Green bankrolled the project while SS Thaman composed the music.
Arya currently awaits the release of Suriya’s Kaappaan (2019), in which he has played a key role. He also has children’s film Teddy, which also stars his wife Sayyeshaa, in the pipeline.
