Generally the first Monday collections of films are much lower than the opening-day numbers. It is rare for the opposite to happen. Director Nitesh Tiwari’s Chhichhore has become one of the rare films to buck the trend.

Chhichhore, starring Sushant Singh Rajput, Shraddha Kapoor and Varun Sharma, had collected Rs7 crore nett on Friday. After a good jump to Rs12 crore nett and Rs16 crore nett on Saturday and Sunday, respectively, the film went on to make Rs7.75 crore yesterday, its first Monday.

The last time such a thing happened was early this year, with Uri: The Surgical Strike, the first blockbuster of 2019. In fact, Chhichhore's Monday numbers are higher than those recorded by some recent hits like Raazi (2018), Stree (2018) and Badhaai Ho (2018).

According to trade sources, Chhichhore has been made on a budget of around Rs50 crore. With the film's domestic collection having already touched Rs42.75 crore nett in its first four days, Chhichhore looks certain to become a hit. Tiwari’s previous project Dangal (2016), which starred Aamir Khan, is the highest grossing Hindi film yet.

Meanwhile, the Hindi version of the Prabhas-starrer Saaho made Rs2.50 crore nett at the box office on its second Monday. Directed by Sujeeth, the Hindi version of the film has made Rs131.75 crore so far at the box office. But the film has lost the battle of the box office as its numbers have been lower than expected in the South.
