While we all know that The Sky Is Pink is based on the inspirational life of young motivational speaker Aisha Chaudhary, who was born with an immune deficiency disorder and who died at 18 from complications resulting from her condition, the first trailer for the film suggests that Shonali Bose's film focuses on the love story of Aisha's parents, Aditi and Niren, played by Priyanka Chopra and Farhan Akhtar, respectively.
The love story is narrated by their daughter, played by Zaira Wasim, who contends that she and her illness became the villain in it. She affectionately calls her parents Panda and Moose. The film takes us back in the past to their days of courtship, the couple as young parents, and eventually the conflicts and hardships that occur from raising a child that needs constant attention and care.
Naturally, the circumstances cause fractures in their relationship, but through it all the family keeps at it and continues to tackle everything together. The tone of the film is uplifting and vibrant despite the heavy matter it deals with. The story takes place both in India and in London, England, where Aisha underwent treatment for her condition.
The film also boasts of a soundtrack by Pritam, with lyrics by Gulzar. Bose, who has co-written the script with Nilesh Maniyar, has previously directed Amu (2005) and Margarita With A Straw (2015).
The Sky Is Pink, co-produced by Ronnie Screwvala and Siddharth Roy Kapur, is due to be released on 11 October. It will have its world premiere at the ongoing Toronto International Film Festival on 13 September.
