The extended Europe schedule of director Kabir Khan’s '83 finally came to an end yesterday. The news was shared by the film’s lead star Ranveer Singh through a boomerang video on his various social media channels. The video sees the actor in celebratory mode as he poses with a glass of wine and his shades on.
'83 is based on the Indian cricket team’s famous World Cup victory of 1983 against all odds. The film sees Ranveer Singh play India’s former captain and all-arounder Kapil Dev who led the team to victory in the final against the mighty West Indies team led by Clive Lloyd.
During a conversation with Cinestaan.com earlier this year, Kabir Khan had said that his longest foreign schedule was for his second film New York (2009), which was shot for around 80 days in the US. Now '83 has broken that record for the filmmaker. The film was shot in Europe for 86 days after it went on the floors on 5 June.
During this period, the team shot at various locations in Europe, including Lord's, the mecca of cricket. It also shot at Turnbridge Wells, the ground where Kapil Dev played his historic knock of 175 not out against Zimbabwe, then the highest individual score in One-Day Internationals. That match was neither broadcast nor recorded as there was a television strike that day. Fans, therefore, would be hoping to get a feel for the romance of the day in the film.
Also starring Deepika Padukone as Kapil Dev’s wife Romi Bhatia, '83 will be released on 10 April 2020.
