Made In China's 'The Naari Naari Song': Rajkummar Rao, Mouni Roy play fight in this foot tapping remake

Composed by Sachin-Jigar, the song takes off from Egyptian singer composer Heshab Abbas's 2001 hit, Nari Nari.

Retro music is here to stay. After a flood of remakes of popular 1990s numbers, the Hindi film music industry has entered the pop culture of the 2000s. The latest song from Mikhil Musale's Made In China is a remake of the very popular 2001 hit 'Nari Nari' by Hesham Abbas.

The song takes the original riff and tune of the Egyptian singer-composer's song and transforms it into something new. The song is visualized on a highly stylized dream sequence between Rajkummar Rao and Mouni Roy's happening couple. The dream also takes place after the success of Rajkummar Rao's salesman having discovered the miraculous 'tiger-soup' drug in China.

With the strobe-lit disco sequences setting the tone, Rajkummar Rao is allowed to go footloose as he plays the nouveau riche entrepreneur to Roy's seductress. The actor is a trained dancer and does put his ability to good use. Boman Irani adds another dimension as he joins in the fun.

The song, by Sachin-Jigar, is a fun remake, particularly since it brings back nostalgia and the sense of Indo-pop that populated the early days of satellite television in the late 1990s-early 2000s. Vishal Dadlani, Jonita Gandhi and Sachin-Jigar take on the vocals. Dadlani and Gandhi play off each other pretty well and bring in the attitude and style required for the song.

Vayu's lyrics add a touch of newness to the song, but maintain its originality by retaining the Arabic lines as well.

Made In China is directed by Mikhil Musale, and is set to be released in theatres on 25 October. Watch the song below, and let us know if you will watch the film in theatres.
