The upcoming film Bhangra Paa Le (2019) revolves around a bhangra dance competition, so the title track updates the popular number from Rakesh Roshan's Karan Arjun (1995). The original track, composed by Rajesh Roshan and written by Indivar, featured Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan and Mamta Kulkarni.
The fun number was just an interlude in the reincarnation drama. Here, in Sneha Taurani's film, it sets up the mood between bhangra dancers and rivals, Sunny Kaushal and Rukshar Dhillon.
While it maintains the spirit of the original, composer Shubham Shirule takes it up a notch as the foot-tapping dhol dominates in this energetic recreation.
Mandy Gill, who has also written the lyrics, brings the right enthusiasm to the number. The song also incorporates the original voices of singers Sadhana Sargam, Mohd. Aziz, Sudesh Bhosle into the number.
The recreation has more of a Punjabi flavour than the Karan Arjun track, as the setting, costumes, and additional lyrics give it that extra flair. It doesn't destroy the original as previous remakes are wont to do, but rather builds on its energy and rhythm.
The only deterrent in the song is that the choreography by Muddasar Khan feels a slight beat behind the vigor of the updated number.
Also starring Shriya Pilgaonkar, Bhangra Paa Le is due to be released on 15 November. Watch the new song and the original below, and let us know if you are keen to watch Bhangra Paa Le.
