Producer Manish Mundhra’s Drishyam Films is moving into the regional sphere with a Marathi film titled Ghaath (The Trap). This is the banner’s third film in the three film deal with Jio Studios.
Ghaath stars Milind Shinde and Jitendra Joshi and is directed by Chhatrapal Ninawe. The film revolves around the Maoist-affected tribal areas of India. The story is about the clashes between Maoist forces and the police. Ghaath is currently into post production and is lined up for a release in the first quarter of 2020.
Speaking to the website Screen Daily, Mundhra shared his thoughts on entering regional cinema. "India has so many different regions and languages, and each is a treasure trove of original stories and fresh talent. The regional film industries in India are very versatile, and by combining them with Drishyam and Jio’s wealth of experience, we are excited to bring these stories to the international stage," he said.
The other two films in the Drisyham-Jio deal is Suman Ghosh’s Aadhaar, which stars Vineet Kumar Singh in the lead and actress Seema Pahwa’s directorial debut Ramprasad Ki Tehrvi. Both films will be having their India premieres later this month at the 21st Mumbai Film Festival.
