The Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff-starrer War (2019) has had an excellent extended first weekend. The film, directed by Siddharth Anand, has so far made Rs158.50 crore net in the five days since its release on 2 October, as per figures shared by BoxOfficeIndia.com.
The film shattered the opening day box office record by amassing as much as Rs51.50 crore net on Wednesday, 2 October, which was a public holiday due to Gandhi Jayanti. There was an expected fall in the next two days as they were working days.
But War once again rose on the weekend by making Rs27.50 crore nett on Saturday and, more importantly, Rs36 crore net on Sunday. Tomorrow’s national holiday for the festival of Dusshehra will also be advantageous for the film.
Also starring Ashutosh Rana, Anupriya Goenka and Vaani Kapoor, War has received mixed response from the audience and critics. But the entertainment quotient and the pairing of Hrithik and Shroff seem to have worked.
As per trade sources, War is made at a budget of around Rs150 crore. Hence, it needs to keep the momentum going and try and earn decent even in the second week.
On the other hand, the Hollywood movie Joker (2019) also managed to earn good numbers in its extended weekend. Starring Joaquin Phoenix in the lead, the film collected Rs23 crore in the first five days. The number might not look high as the film is mainly targeted at the urban Indian audience.
