Gully Boy, Jallikattu, Anandi Gopal selected for Panorama section at the 50th International Film Festival of India

The upcoming golden jubilee edition of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) has chosen 26 films as part of its Indian Panorama section, showcasing the best of contemporary Indian feature and non-feature cinema of the past year. These include the Marathi films Anandi Gopal (2019), Bhonga, the Malayalam films Jallikattu (2019), Uyare (2019), and the Tamil films, House Owner (2019) and Oththa Seruppu Size 7 (2019).

The announcement was made by union minister of information and broadcasting Prakash Javadekar in New Delhi yesterday.

Hindi films include Gully Boy (2019), which was recently named as India's entry for the Best International Feature Film category, Uri: The Surgical Strike (2019), Super 30 (2019) and Badhaai Ho (2018) will also be screened. The Gujarati film, Hellaro, which picked up a number of awards at the National Awards in August, will be the opening film.

15 non-feature films have also been selected, including the English film, The Secret Life Of Frogs, and the Hindi film Sathyarthi. Ashish Pandey's Nooreh will be the opening film of this section. Filmmaker Priyadarshan will be the head of the feature film jury, while documentary filmmaker Rajendra Janglay will head the non-feature jury.

The 50th edition will showcase 200 films from 76 countries, and also feature 12 prominent films in different languages that complete 50 years this year. They will be screened at the Goa festival to be held from 20 to 28 November. The festival will also screen films with audio description for the visually impaired for the first time.

“Dadasaheb Phalke award-winner Shri Amitabh Bachchan’s outstanding contribution to cinema will be honoured and celebrated through a package of his impactful and entertaining films in the 50th edition," Javadekar added.
