The makers of Ek Hota Malin released an appealing poster of the film in July this year. The film is based on the tragic landslide that took place in Malin village in July 2014.

If you thought the image of a person trapped inside heaps of wet sand was disturbing, wait for the teaser. The 40-second footage is enough to send a chill down your spine.

Like the poster, the teaser also does not feature any artistes. It just shows a top shot of Malin while it is raining the proverbial cats and dogs. One can see a good number of houses and huts. Then the landslide happens. There are no visuals of the landslide, but the screams of the residents and cattle are enough.

Kudos to the film's technical team for creating the desired effect. The sound of rain and flood waters, the screaming and mooing, and the camerawork are impressive. Indeed, the atmosphere brings back memories of last year’s Tumbbad (2018), which is considered a benchmark in sound design and camerawork.

Written and directed by Dattatray A Gaikar and Raju N Rane, Ek Hota Malin stars Prashant Mohite and television actress Ashwini Kasar.

The 2014 tragedy in Malin killed at least 17 people and trapped many others. The village is 75km from Pune and 30km from the Bhimashankar temple.
