The trailer of Raajhorshee De’s much anticipated film Purbo Poschim Dokkhin Uttor Ashbei (2019) features an ensemble cast of Paran Bandopadhyay, Kamaleswar Mukherjee, Rudraprasad Sengupta, Arpita Pal Chatterjee, Aryann Bhowmik, Gaurab Chakraborty, Damini Basu, Rajesh Sharma and Suchandra Vaaniya, who also happens to be the producer of the film.
The trailer of the film is quite eerie and puzzling. It begins with Mukherjee insisting on telling certain stories to Chatterjee while travelling on a train. There are three narratives in the film and the trailer offers glimpses of those narratives, without suggesting anything regarding the storyline.
However, it becomes apparent that the film deals with the paranormal entities and its equation with the mortal world. There are takes on various kinds of Tantra practices and the subject of reincarnation has also been explored here in this film. There are characters who are avid devotees and also there are the ones who defies the idea of Gods and goddesses.
The paranormal thriller also deals with the culture of Aghoris, on which no mainstream film has been made so far. Also, perhaps, the storyline reaches at a point where the marking line between the mortal and the paranormal world gets blurred.
There are not many glimpses in the trailer, that can invoke horror; however, there are horrific reactions of the characters that creates anticipation for the film. Between the narratives, Chatterjee is gradually seen to be getting engrossed and affected by Mukherjee’s stories. At the end, she is seen as transformed soul, who was blatantly nonchalant in the beginning.
The trailer might appear disturbing for those who are not much into exploring the world beyond the mortals’. But those who are interested might find the trailer quite intriguing with glimpses of Ranjan Palit’s fine camerawork and the late Sanjib Kumar Dutta’s fascinating editing.
Purbo Poschim Dokkhin Uttor Ashbei is slated for release on 22 November.
