It might be odd to watch Nawazuddin Siddiqui play a romantic hero, but a song like this certainly helps. 'Choti Choti Gal', composed by Arjuna Harjai, is a treat of a song that is as emotive as it is enjoyable, with the voice of Yasser Desai making the right impact.
The song forms the backdrop for a crucial moment of Debamitra Biswal's film, with Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Athiya Shetty's newlyweds realising the mistake of their marriage.
While Shetty's Anita has chosen to enter the marriage in the only hope of visiting Dubai, Siddiqui's Pushpinder Tyagi still holds out hopes of love. While he attempts to move past the hurdle and try to woo her, she remains unrelenting. Yasser Desai's rendition layers this resentment with a soulful ballad.
Arjuna Harjai's composition uses the familiar rhythms of Punjabi ballads, but lets Desai's voice build on the base of the guitar strumming. This allows the composition a mellow flow that suits the lyrics by Kumaar and the mood of the song. The additional orchestration keeps the beat till the tabla takes over. It is then that the song comes into its own. Yet, it is minimalistic in style and soothing in experience.
Motichoor Chaknachoor, directed by Debamitra Biswal, is set to release in theatres on 15 November. Watch the song below and let us know if you are keen to watch the film.
