I will sue anyone who remixes our songs, threatens Vishal Dadlani

Singer-composer Vishal Dadlani has taken up the gauntlet for music composers finding their songs remixed by others. Dadlani took to social media to threaten anyone remixing the compositions of Vishal-Shekhar with a lawsuit.

Dadlani wrote, 'I will sue anyone making remixes of Vishal & Shekhar songs. I'll even move court against the films & musicians.' 

The composer seems to have been offended that a few of his songs like 'Saaki Saaki', 'Dus Bahaane', 'Deedaar De' and 'Desi Girl' are up for modified versions. 

'Saaki Saaki' was recreated as 'O Saki Saki' by Tanishk Bagchi for the film Batla House (2019). 

Incidentally, Dadlani's view was seconded by the rapper Badshah, who wrote 'Word Sir' in his reply to the composer.

Badshah himself was slammed by British rapper and composer Dr Zeus for remixing 'Don't Be Shy' and 'Kangna Tera Ni' for the upcoming Ayushmann Khurrana-starrer, Bala (2019). However, in response Badshah and the makers of Bala had released a statement saying they had bought the rights for Dr Zeus's compositions before remixing them. 

In the comments, several users also raised questions against Vishal Dadlani himself, saying the composer is just as guilty of remixing songs. Dadlani, alongwith Shekhar Ravjiani, made some popular remixes like 'Bachna Ae Haseeno' and provided the vocals for the recent remix of 'The Naari Naari Song' for Made In China (2019). 

Earlier in February, composer Rajesh Roshan and singers Usha Mangeshkar and Lata Mangeshkar had slammed the remix 'Mungda Mungda' from the film Total Dhamaal (2019). 

In 2018, Lata Mangeshkar had even appealed to music companies to 'fulfil their responsibility to music' by refraining from making remixes. 

It remains to be seen if music companies will take note of the growing resentment from composers across the board or continue to push their luck.
