Karan Johar named ambassador at 4th International Film Festival and Awards, Macao


The upcoming edition of the festival will be held from 5 to 10 December.

Filmmaker Karan Johar will be joining the fourth edition of the International Film Festival and Awards, Macao, as ambassador. Chinese filmmaker Wang Xiaoshuai and Korean filmmaker Kim Yong-Hwa, along with Johar, have been named festival ambassadors. The announcement was made earlier this week.

Chinese actress Carina Lau and Korean boy band leader Suho of EXO will be the talent ambassadors. Previous talent ambassadors have included Jang Keun-Suk, Rhydian Vaughan, Jeremy Renner, Donnie Yen, Miriam Yeung, Doh Kyung-Soo (D.O.), Nicolas Cage, Aaron Kwok and Lim Yoon A.

The annual film event will push "forward the development of Macao’s film, cultural and creative industries, enhance exchange opportunities with international movies as well as unveil a wider landscape for the development of cultural and artistic platforms, tourism and other fields", said a press release about the festival.

Hong Kong director Peter Chan will lead the jury as president for the films in competition. The festival will also feature a new competition section for short films, while awards for Best Film, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Actor and Best Actress will be handed out for outstanding 'New Chinese Cinema'.

Organized by the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) and the Macau Films & Television Productions and Culture Association (MFTPA), the film festival will be held from 5 through 10 December.
