Bala song ‘Don’t Be Shy’: Ayushmann, Badshah get in the groove

The first song from Amar Kaushik's Bala (2019), 'Don't Be Shy', takes place in a fantasy world where Ayushmann Khurrana's Bala tries on a new wig and woos both Bhumi Pednekar and Yami Gautam, his co-stars from Dum Laga Ke Haisha (2015) and Vicky Donor (2012), respectively.
The song is a remake of the hit 2004 track of the same name by the girl group Rouge and Dr Zeus. Composers Sachin-Jigar use rapper Badshah to open up the number and get the audience in the groove. This recreation is catchy and the infectious mood of Khurrana, Pednekar and Gautam pulls you in.
Singer Shalmali Kholgade lends her voice for both actresses while Badshah with Mellow D have penned the lyrics for this remake. 'Don't Be Shy' has a light, breezy tempo, and the pastel visualization of the track matches the mood.
In the song, Khurrana's balding Bala dons a new wig thanks to a hairstylist played by Abhishek Banerjee and takes to the streets to bust a move with Pednekar first and then Gautam. It is indicated that Pednekar seems to like Bala as he is, while Gautam's character, a TikTok star, seems more superficial and runs away when she sees that Bala is wearing a wig.
It seems that Bala comes to terms with it all as he smiles and strikes a Shah Rukh Khan pose at the end.
We also noticed a sly nod to director Kaushik's first film as the theatre behind the stars is playing Stree (2018).
Bala is due to be released on 7 November, a day before the similarly themed Ujda Chaman (2019). Watch the song below and let us know if you would be keen to watch the film.
