Death and the journey to afterlife is examined in a more scientific, or at least fictionally scientific manner, in Arati Kadav's Cargo. The film is the official selection for the Spotlight section of the upcoming 21st Mumbai Film Festival. Backed by Shlok Sharma and Anurag Kashyap, the film is a rarity as a spaceship-based sci-fi film.
The teaser captures the sight of Vikrant Massey's Prahasth, a demon working on Pushpak 634A, a spaceship outfitted for 'Post Death transition' for the lives on Earth. By that implication alone, Kadav's film transforms the mythical journey of afterlife into a more scientific process of being debriefed and cleared up by people on a far out space station.
The teaser captures the loneliness of Prahasth, and the drabness of his entire work. The only companion is present in Shweta Tripathi's assistant who jots down the happenings of these events.
The film combines mythology with science fiction to bring a different view to things. Whether we find out what happens to these lost souls, or Prahasth finds a way to escape himself will come out through the film.
