The poster of Sandip Ray’s much awaited venture Professor Shonku O El Dorado (2019), the first ever film on Satyajit Ray’s iconic creation, features veteran actor Dhritiman Chatterjee in the titular role. Sandip has written the screenplay and also composed the music of the film, following his father’s path.

The neon colours in the poster reminds a lot of the comics Professor Shonku that used to be serially published in the special Puja supplement of Anandamela. It features a hand holding up a chemical jar that is partially reflecting Chatterjee’s face and raising anticipation regarding his avatar as Shonku, a character, who has admirers in all age groups of readers in and outside Bengal.

In the bluish background, there are a few robots and machines from Shonku’s laboratory, one of the most intriguing elements of Shonku’s stories.

Based on Ray’s story Nokur Babu O El Dorado, the film also features Subhasish Mukhopadhyay as Nokur Babu, who possesses a unique trait of reading peoples’ minds and can also foresee future.

In the story, once he visits Shonku’s workplace in Giridi and informs about certain impending dangers in Sao Paulo. Intrigued Shonku then travels to Brazil to attend a science conference with Nakur Babu, and eventually, they are led to the fictional city of El Dorado, where mystery unfolds.

The film has been shot in the heart of the Amazon forest. Also featuring Joy Badlani in a crucial role, Professor Shonu O El Dorado is slated for release on this Christmas.
